Falling in Love with “Faith”

Leave it to an OST song to push me over the edge. It’s amazing, isn’t it? The way a melody and lyrics draw out the emotions that lay flattened and scattered across scenes. I wrote in the “Faith” episode 4 recap that I was finally invested in the drama and at that time, it was the extent of my attachment to the drama. But slowly and strangely, I found myself thinking about Faith and its characters throughout the day, eager for the next episode so I can see their relationship develop.

I have never cared about secondary OTP’s before, an OTP entirely separate for the hero and heroine of the drama. But can we say that Gongmin and No-gook are really secondary characters? By cast listing, yes, but by their story and love line, no. I ship this couple real bad, guys, real bad. I love No-gook and her fiery spirit, her cold exterior, and her inner gentleness. I love Gongmin, his stubbornness and pride, and even his inferiority complex. Gongmin and No-gook’s relationship is a thin line between love and hate, and I’m dying to see that barrier burst into flames. No-gook and Gongmin are so compatible, and I can see how, once Gongmin lets go of his anger and No-gook opens her heart again, they will have partnership made up of love and respect. I see their future as a wonderful royal couple, ruling Goryeo with dignity and wisdom. Guh, I love them.

I’m not as heavily invested in the Eun-soo and Choi Young couple yet but since I’m such a sucker for epically doomed relationships, I wait with giddy anticipation for their relationship to develop. I mean, I love the concept. He’s a Goryeo warrior. She’s a 21st century plastic surgeon. He wants to die. She wants to live. They’re both trapped, Young inside the palace and Eun-soo in Goryeo. Young is going to find a reason to live and be a warrior, not because of a sacrifice and oath, but because he chooses to fight. And Eun-soo is going to learn there is more to life than big salaries and spacious apartments. He’s going to save her; she’s going to save him. They’re going to fall in love, but 660 years divide them. Will their love defy space and time?
