Fun on the Set of “Faith”

It’s great to see a cast get along and have fun behind the scenes of a drama, especially when the drama is on the more serious side.

I was fortunate enough to get my grubby little hands on a Korean morning entertainment show, “Good Morning,” (August 29, 2012) that did a special on “Faith” and it put a huge smile on my face to see everyone having such a fun time filming. So I wanted to share a few things I learned and noticed while watching the show.

Ryu Deok-hwan, the actor who plays Gongmin, was a child actor who has now been in the industry for twenty years. Seems most of the cast was surprised to hear that. So in a interview, when asked what he would be doing if he wasn’t an actor, he replied that he never thought about that. So Lee Min-ho playfully suggested he reply that he was just born to be an actor. Ryu Deok-hwan took his advice :D. And can you believe it? Lee Min-ho and Ryu Deok-hwan are the same age. They speak banmal to each other, from what I can tell from the interview.

Question: You’ve been acting for twenty years. What do you think you would be doing now if you weren’t acting?

Hee-sun, Min-ho, Se-young: REALLY????

Ryu Deok-hwan: Hmm.. haven’t thought about it.

Lee Min-ho: Just say you dreamed of being an actor ever since you were born.

Ryu Deok-hwan turns to interviewer: I was just born to be an actor ๐Ÿ˜€

Everyone laughs at the very obliging Ryu Deok-hwan.

Love Young and Gongmin relationship!

Another OTP to love! Gongmin and No-gook!

In their press conference, Kim Hee-sun stated that she liked Ryu Deok-hwan, to which he replied, “Sorry but I going to go to Se-young.” Hahahahaha!

Something I noticed was that it seems they did a lot of re-filming for this show. For example, the actor who plays Jo Il-shin, Lee Byung-Joon, seems to have been cast very late. During the BTS of the scene in front of the portal, I noticed another actor in that role.

I know they’ve been working on this drama forever before it actually aired- a lot of reworking the script and problems in the production, I suppose- so that’s why we’ve got scenes and stills of the drama that never show up in the actual drama.

It’s interesting how Jang Bin’s medical abilities have been downgraded from supernatural to just good. He seems to have some sort of supernatural ability when he uses the fan (episode 1) but he doesn’t use it for healing like the screenshot above suggests (and we saw in the initial trailers for the drama).

Kim Hee-sun was full of praises for Lee Min-ho, saying that he is very gentlemanly to her- giving up his seat, worrying about hurting her during all the dragging scenes.

Seems there is so much teasing going on behind the scenes. So cute. Everyone was teasing Lee Min-ho for sleeping so much for the first few episodes of the drama. Philip Lee and Hee-sun suggested that they use another actor with a better body for this scene, since it’s just a shot of Young lying down. Hahahaha!

Then Lee Min-ho complaining the “Good Morning” show came to film them on the day when he has to show some skin. Lol. Min-ho embarrassed by his lack of abs. It’s okay, we understand. You’ve lost over 7kgs during one month of filming!

The interviewer comments that everyone seems to be getting along really well and the atmosphere on the set is really good. Lee Minho replies that everything depends on Kim Hee-sun’s mood. Ha! Kim Hee-sun tries to block his mouth.

It’s always surprising to see Lee Min-ho being such a playful and bright little kid because of the serious roles he plays, and Kim Hee-sun seems to be really friendly and energetic.

Lee Min-ho described Kim Hee-sun as sometimes being like a baby. Kim Hee-sun poking him from the back as revenge.

Hee! An old OTP on the screen again!

Apparently, Ahn Jae-wook agreed to cameo after receiving a phone call from Kim Hee-sun, despite having not heard from her in six years. So sweet of him.

Kim Hee-sun was asked about being called the “Imja” couple. She likes it. Usually it’s associated with older people but to hear it from Lee Min-ho, who’s in his twenties, it’s refreshing.

Lee Min-ho apparently feel asleep during the filming of the kiss/CPR scene and was surprised to wake up and see her hovering over him. LOL. This was said in another vid.

In this vid too, we get another Gongmin-Nogook OTP moment. When asked what they call each other in private, Ryu Deok-hwan said that he jokes around with Park Se-young by continuing in sageuk speech and saying, “Enter the bedroom” (implying you know what ;)). Se-young replied the she simply calls him “sun-bae” (a way to address someone who is older and has more experience than you in an organization or group). Ryu Deok-hwan added that he asked her to just call him husband. ๐Ÿ˜€

Just sharing again my favorite BTS.

Awwww so cute! KHS seems like a cute and playful motherly figure lol

And the shot of AJW and KHS, loveeee em!

    • Gosh KHS didn’t contact AJW for 6 years? Goodness! But its nice that they keep the kind of relationship that even without contact for 6 years, they still help each other. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Joonni, for the goodies. I’m in love with the cast!~ So good to see that they are all getting along well, to the extent that they tease each other all the time. RDH-LMH friendship… i love that! Kim Hee Sun really sets the atmosphere off screen! It’s definitely nice to have her on the set.

Great post, Joonni! Actually, the photos from the deleted scenes you posted, those with KHS stiching are not from an actual filming but she practiced how the real doctors move and behave during surgeries and how they hold the instruments, I believe, it was filmed on May 22 in a Gangnam hospital. Those with LP are from the 2010 Faith version starring Kang Ji Hwan as the Goryeo general before the script changed. The cast and crew spent 3 days on Jeju Islands filming a short preview. The drama should have had a far larger budget, the doctor from the future was supposed to be a man and KHS character was from the Goryeo period not from the 21th century.
Here is the preview to the 2010 version:

That was just awesome. As much as I enjoy Faith this version looks so epic !!! Why they didnยดt make it? Why? Why? Such a waste. Of course it could turn to be less than satisfactory but those settings are so appealing. I like Lee Min Ho in Faith but seeing Kang Ji Hwan … maybe otยดs his age or something but heยดs more believable as a Goryeo general than LMH.

@Ditu3ka- I did like the 3D effects (minus the squirting blood), and how the other village looked/palace looked. I agree that Kang Ji Hwan( and I love him as an actor)would probably better fit the age of a general, but I love LMH in this role. His demeanor, expressions, and his pretty face are just so nice to look at. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, Briseis! It is totally different. Not just the feel of how it was filmed, but also the colors and actors…I much prefer our current version with LMH!!!

P.s.-all the blood squirting out like smooshed ketchup packets had me shaking my head laughing. Seriously???! Such theatrical gore to the point of just being ridiculous.

    • joonni #

Oh wow, that looks amazing but such a different drama. Now I really want to see Kang Ji Hwan as a warrior.

I’m guessing they couldn’t get enough investing in a 3D drama and with the Kang Ji Hwan management issues, the initial project went bust. Which is sad.

I can recognize so much of “The Legend” set being used. Hee!

I know this wasn’t made due to the dispute KJH and his management had and I love the current Faith but this looks on a whole other level – I almost wish I didn’t see the trailer because now I want to watch what this would have been so badly.

Wow, I didn’t realize the original cast had a preview shot so at first I was confused when I saw Phillip Lee and KHS in here, like they made a movie of the same story together, what a coincidence! The feel of the old preview and the current drama is so different. I wonder if the director and writers are same or different? Wow, Kang Ji Hwan totally does need to play a serious warrior… am I the only one fanning myself here? KJH is SO HOT!!! I like current Faith but the old version looks like it colud have been that “EPIC” that I was hoping for.

So cute.. thanks for sharing. I love watching BTS and NGs of dramas I’m watching. I wish more of them were more readily available to us. It seems that Faith has quite a few out there on You tube!

There’s no other actor who should fit the role of General Choi Young, it’s only LMH. This drama wouldn’t be this excellent without him…I will not be interested if it’s not him…the story is great but if it’s not LMH, it’s nothing…

Luv LMH, but his acting needs to step it up a notch. Ever compare his expressions in all his films? They’re the same no matter what scene. Still, “fighting” LMH!

At first, I watch Faith because of LMH but I ended up in love with KHS acting as Eun Soo. I started to search her profile and now finally, I falling in love with her works, looks and modelling. Kim Hee Sun is awesome. Hope she got some recognise awards for her hard works all this year.

After Faith, I started to like this beautiful actress. She had so many impression in her role form a greedy doctor to caring and lovely physician in the Gorgyeo era. I feel so unfair for her been judge by Lee Min Ho ‘s haters fangirling. In 90’s , she is one of the best, making most of her dramas over 50% rating. If she is HK or Taiwan actress, she won’t judge like this as in Korea. Anyway, less talk, she is one of best Korean actress.

I do agree with you. After Faith I falling in love with herp personality. She is a beautiful, kindness, bright, and smart. I searching abut her, n now I have so much collected picture’s of her. And I’m so interested with LMH attention to her. He stare at her with heart. In and out set. I think I never see him look so happy and felt comfortable with the other leading lady on his another drama. Maybe that’s why KHS’s Hubby feels like jealous with LMH. LoL.
