Written Preview: “Faith” Episode 23

I don’t know what to think about this preview. There seems to be hope for our Imja couple in it if I try to interpret it positively but it also doesn’t tell us anything new. This drama is determined to drive me bonkers until the end, isn’t it?

Episode 23

Choi Young is determined not to be apart from Eun-soo even for a moment until the last day, and Eun-soo carefully observes Choi Young’s hand disorder while not giving up hope in her antidote. Ki Chul, who has been pushed to the edge of a precipice and is on the run, begins to carry out his final counterattack.

What can I say? Admittedly, I have spent some time pondering over the past few days how this drama will end and I just can’t come up with a solid lean toward a happy ending or a sad ending. There are different versions of a “happy” ending and “sad” ending I can come up with in my head and the possibility for the ending to end up in either categories is so high. For each scenario I can imagine my head, there is always something that doesn’t make sense and it’s driving me crazy.

Seriously, next week is going to be crazy. C.R.A.Z.Y.

    • I so hear you … I was soooo pissed off with my Moonlight coupel when they pulled THAT!!!

  2. Yup. I officially cant even speculate anymore. I am just numb.

So I am just going to go sit in the gutter and eat my smores and enjoy the pretty pictures.

    • The moment you realize they have access to two antibiotics that could help Eunsoo but they arent using them *head desk*

LMAO! The first one is the flower and what’s the second one, dear doctor?

        • No just a MA who got an A in Pharmacology in the 2 quarters she had to take Pharm. Echinacea and Garlic.

But I dont really know enough Korean to fully get WHAT ES has. Since it already defies what I understand of disease process.

Actually Medical has been kinda poking at me for a while but I keep telling it to shut up because I really dont want to know how broken this show is. (Ever since apparently the first step to CPR in K-drama is the rip the upper body clothing off..I feel betrayed my CPR class didnt tell me that)

So the yellow chrysanthemums are not a possible antidote? Or are they considered “mums”? I saw people posting this as a possible antibiotic and I am no herbalist so I don’t know.

Wonder if ES will get similar side effects to lyme disease? But a Japanese flying tick seems a lot deadlier than a wood tick.

If I were ES, I’d get the F out of Goreyo..don’t want my hunky man to see me degenerate like that and loose my looks…Hahah… J/K! I know superficial…LOL! I just needed a laugh!

            October 26, 2012
            • Cept Lyme disease wouldnt kill her. Just be incredibly painful in like awhile. Like I said I need to stop thinking about it because it just hurts my brain.

CPR is something that is good to know but you hope you never have to do since it only has like a 15% success rate.

Somehow I think CY cares me about ES’s apperance than ES does. I always thought that scene where he sits her down and tells her to fix her hair a little random. Unless it was because he was making him think naughty thoughts then if I was EX I may just mess up my hair on purpose.

              October 26, 2012
              • Sussie #

@Onichick, first I believed that CY was caring about ES´s appearance (since her messy appearance made her look like a crazy person LOL). BUT THEN, on EP21… his gaze when she was letting her hair down in front of him… OMO hahaha … after that, I totally changed my interpretation of his uncomfortableness! He was making him think naughty thoughts with her messy hair… LOL (at that scene, he ended grabbing her hand LOL)

                October 26, 2012
              • We have to think about it from the view point of 14th century Korea here … Lyme Disease WAS fatal in those times due to bad hygiene, frugal food etc. It still is if not treated right (meningitis comes ot mind here). The average 14th century peasant/citizen would have died of Lyme or any other disease transmitted by ticks and/or flying insects. Malaria is still fatal in 20% of patients if it is not treated (circulatory collapse, pulmonary oedema etc.).
I hope she is vaccinated enough to get the symptoms and gets really really sick but doesn’t die.

I knew it! And you guys thought my speculation was only gutterminded back in episode 13/14. I said that her messy hair reminded him of bed hair and totally turned him on! Haha.

Chrysanthemums are an important curative in Chinese Medicine, alone and combined with other herbs. I was going to write about this earlier but I thought it might be too spoilery and/or I didn’t know if that was the way the writer was going to go.

              http://www.acupunctureinlondon.com/2011/10/chinese-herbal-medicine-chrysanthemum.html

IMPORTANT: Chrysanthemums can be toxic to pets, and can cause allergic reactions in some people so please don’t start experimenting at home without professional guidance !

Oh, yes, and I think there would a gazillion fangirls fighting to give LMH CPR, especially if he’s shirtless…LOL! I would volunteer to do it even if I am not trained…medical ethics be damned! 😀

Nobody in K-drama land does CPR properly. No one. It’s hilarious. 😀

            • Not in American shows either. Which I also cackle at.

I think thats why i am afraid to watch any Kdrama that are medical shows. It may turn into a comedy without meaning too.

Whoever is writing these last previews (which btw, don´t say anything clear to us), is purposely trying to affect us and he´s succeeding since we all are growing more and more anxious…

I agree with the fact that a devastating/sad/hysterical sobbing ep 23 may imply HEA E24.

What I think could happen on EP23, is as follow:
    1. Bittersweet moments between ES/CY (ES trying to convince him to letting her stay… CY trying hard to maintain his determination of letting her go back… in between I hope we have a lot of skinship… yay!).
    2. KC trying to enter palace in order to retrieve 3er relic and notes hidden. But, in the middle of that “operation”, he will counterattack and succeed to kidnap ES.
    3. Then, KC will try to escape with ES in direction to where the portal is (that it is why PD team announced that they are shooting in that place)

PS: Thank u Joonni for sharing this preview.

I just had a horrible thought.
So far, LMH has only had HAPPY endings for his dramas.
Maybe THIS is the one where we all have gashed hearts at the end, and he ends up dis-happy, unjoyous or anticontent?
    What if?

    October 26, 2012
    • SH #

Ohmygosh, Jomo – you and I are on the same wave length; I was thinking about that too 😀

      BOF – Happy ending
Personal Taste – Happy ending (didn’t see that one personally)
City Hunter – Satisfying ending (the romance was not really the center of the story)

      Faith – ….

      October 26, 2012
    • Sussie #

Please don´t scare me with these thoughts… T_T you´re making me feel shivers.

Let´s take a “happy pill” and regain our positive thought 🙂 We must remember that Faith´s ending depends on Writer Song and she sure doesn´t care about other dramas of LMH LOL

(writer Song, please have mercy on us!! )

      October 26, 2012
    • Ditto that, Sussie.

NO NO…a million NOs. Did you have suicide cereal for breakfast? These kind of thoughts are so bad for our hearts and potentially push us over the edge:(. how about we stick to positive thinking. Sussie..please hand out ‘happy pills’ to EVERYBODY!

Here is what I think. ES has gone through the doorway so many times to make things right, to get to this point.
So now, there are only 4 ways she can go:
    a) she can only either stay and die (meaning she wouldn’t be able to go back through and change things again),
    b) stay, find a cure, and live with CY until she dies a natural death,
    c) go through and get healed and come right back before the door closes again so she can be with CY until her natural death, or
    d) go through and get healed and then stay in the future, feeling that her relationship with CY has reached the kind of resolution where they can both carry on apart in their own time frames.

(Technically, there is e) a remote possibility he comes through with her and stays in the future but that seems really unlikely because it would mess with history as we know it.)

If she were to goes through the door and is not happy with how things stand, she’d be coming back to another earlier past as we know she has done before and the story would be unfinished.

    A) would be a classic tragedy storyline and could legitimately happen, although none of us want it.

    B) would be HEA – yay!

    except I’m voting for

    C) because then she could visit the fortune teller she treated so rudely and tell him he was right after all. He seemed to excited for her and wanted to tell her more and she blew him off. He deserves an HEA too – LOL ! Besides, we know the police are looking for “psycho” & them getting BACK would be a story in itself !

    D) would be unexpected and writer-nim would have to do something masterful to pull that off and make the story feel finished.

    E) is unlikely because it would change the history as we know it, but writer-nim cetainly is brilliant and wily enough to maybe figure out how to make that happen.

Early on, I too read the history of CY and the grass on his grave not growing back until 1979 and it made me wonder if there is some reincarnation play or something going to happen, at that point I thought that might make a good story, but 20 episodes later, I, I’m really hoping we don’t get a reincarnation resolution.

In the end, it is her story to tell. I have faith.

I ´m voting for B or C… 😉 (for me, option C does more sense)

      October 26, 2012
    • Matilda2012 #

I would like option C too.

I just finished watching the last scene of Ep 22 (again!) CY is really adamant at sending ES back. I don’t think he can watch her die.

I am wondering, will he ever ask if he can go with her to the future? He does not know anything about history (despite ES’ stories). If ES is willing to stay to die in Goryeo if not treated, would he be willing to join the woman he loves in a different world? I know that is not what Korean history says, but just at this point in the story, as we start episode 23. I hope they will not cut away from that scene when they begin 23. There needs to be some resolution at this point.

I am eating my lunch and having knots in my stomach I might get indigestion. Ahh Faith, if you do not end soon, my life will never get back to normal.

    • Sunshine #

Keaton, I love all the thought you put into this, and how you made the options/ plot possibilites nice and clean with simple A, B,C endings. I’m definitely hoping for C. (or a surprise twist, that results in them happy together)

I confess this is really hard for me. I didn’t intend to get drawn into Faith this way at all. The last time I got this hooked into something, the writers totally disappointed not just me, but almost their complete fan following; so there is now this cynical piece inside my heart that is hasn’t dared to trust or care about a drama like this since… until now, until Faith.

Endings are so very important for me in stories, so much so that I read the ending of a book first before I decided to read the story. If the ending is wrong, if it feels like it is just wringing emotion for emotion’s sake or if the writer is lazy, I won’t read it. So, here is a story where I can’t know the ending, but I am trusting it will end right.

A good story, for me, is one that changes me, is like diving into a mountain lake and coming out alive and aware. I believe this, Faith, is going to be one of the best stories, through and through.

(side rant: I just wish the translations picked up by the mainstream get cleaned up or better – I am so grateful to Softy and Joonni and all of you because, if I were just relying on the translations from Hulu, so much gets lost ! by the by, I picked up a teach yourself Korean book/CD/MP3 set yesterday. What a beautiful, sophisticated language !

That confirms it-we are definitely sisters. I do the same thing!!! Drives my hubs batty because he can’t understand why I do that…I call it getting the cliffs note version…a little at the beginning, a tiny bit in the middle, and straight to the ending…if it is worth it, then I proceed.

I agree, Faith is going to be one of those really special stories. Funny, I’ve learned so much about people, life, and myself watching kdramas. I try learn something from the characters-both their strengths, and character flaws. Have you tried on Viki? Their translations are usually the best. Oh, and Yes, Korean is beautiful. I have the Hangul writing app, and have been learning bits here and there. My two year old can count a little in Korean. 🙂

Well girls… So we are three doing the same thing (take a look at the ending) LOL 😛 Each time that my hubby sees me doing that, he always says to me that I kill the emotion of the book (since I skip the surprise factor) but I really don’t care! LOL!

Reading this, I trust Writer Song will give us a HEA… HOPE SO! because, according to the chinese story about these birds, the two poor lovers never gave up until they were together. http://resources.echineselearning.com/general/general-chinese-1492.html

Ok, remember that DH told KC where he hid the diary, but DH burn the last pages. SY said his great-great grandfather said the woman from the future developed a medicine that could cure poison. What a true masochist. The preview tell us nothing. *sob..sob.

But, i’ve got some happy pill for this torture. Through my journey to feed my Faith’s addiction, i’ve found some facts about our daejang in the real life. He love read just like his father who was a scholar, but he prefers read military books. If we able to notice, in Faith, our daejang love throw books to his wooldachi’s pupies, it’s mean that beside his sword, books is the thing that he hold much..

And.. i’ve also found out, Choi Young love to make poems. Here one of his poem :

Whet Dragon-Spring and Snowy-Blade to be sharp and shining, Lift it to my shoulder when I start. Let me be a strong man to live and die for my country.

Wewwww… It’s totally new about daejang for me, if you don’t mind, could you tell us where we can read it??

I’m getting more in love with daejang, expert in swords, love reading ‘n good in writing poem.. ^ ^

Well, I think he has another ability to survive in ES’s world, teaching fencing or as an artist.. So ES won’t feel bad take him too her world, especially if he no longer able to fight with his sword! (I hope)

Beside joonni’s blog, i’m following tirza’s blog, written in indonesian’s language. here is the link for the article about our daejang

        http://kadorama-recaps.blogspot.com/2012/08/general-choi-young-guardian-of-goryeo.html

Even in indonesian, you can use google translate, so you can understand what she’s wrote. (Joonni, sorry for putting this link on your blog, just wanna share some information about choi young. I hope you dont mind)

From this blog, i also knew, that before he’s been headed by Yi Seonggye, he swore that “The grass will never grow on my grave. ”

His death is really unfair. And history proves that there is no grass growing on heisgrave, is known as the graveyard Jeokbun meaning red, because his grave covered by red soil.

I’m getting more in love of our daejang

It’s a faith. I’m Indonesian Chiko, what about you? It would be great, thank you so much for the link!

Especially for Joonni, thank you, you have caused this all to happen.

Our daejang, in fiction and real life, how sad he was. Even nature was also sad, it’s reflected by the grass which hadn’t grown on his grave till 1976. CY was a great general, not only the history that said about it, but nature also testified.

          • chikoku #

Yes.. This is A FAITH, ann. I am Indonesian, too, from Kalimantan. Yes, HUGE thanks to Jooni, because her blog unite us. Can you believe that !! Woooo.. i am screaming in joy !! I’am tempting to speak Indonesian, but because this is global blog, i hold it.. Wooooaaa.. still so happy.

Yes, our daejang really sad. Because he is a clean and pure person, nature, the mother of earth testify for him. He’s the truly A BIG GENERAL. By reading tirza’s blog, i’ve got repeating ghosebump, his story make me really respect to him. By reading joonni’s blog, i’ve got teary eyes, and make me really love him.

  17. Zulma De Leon= SY(yuan) said that she has to die because it was her fault that she cured a man who later became a threath/murderer who killed and wipeout out entire villigers, that she shuld not have intervined in a man’s destiny to die. Meaning that because she interfered in curing this ‘man’ she altered his destiny and was resposible for his killing entire villages. At times, I think that SY is refering to CY as the man that she cured/would have gone crazy, but that he/SY doesn’t know this man’s identity yet. My reason is that in the event that CY looses ES he will GO CRAZY and will wipe out all involved with the army of the brother and sister with the powers.
CY cannot go back to Heaven with ES as he will be inprisioned for kidna ping and hurting a man (the one that was cut in the neck) when he visited Heaven.
I am in such stress because I WANT them together, I hate watching dramas that end so tragic, I get hurt.
Love all this website does. 😉

    Hi girls!
In one of my crazy-fangirl moments I thought: CY went through the gate, asked the monk for directions, reached the conference hall, watched ES lesson, kidnapped her, almost killed a guy, waited for ES to save him, went through an army, and got back in Goryeo with a very reluctant hostage… all in all it would have taken at least 2 hours… WHY THE HELL can’t she go get a damned shot? -.-
But I guess that’s dramaland logic

    October 27, 2012
    • Tmie #

lol I so agree. What’s the deal, the gate seemed to open like almost two days in the beginning. Why can’t she just go to the hospital, have her blood test, wouldn’t take over four hours and get treated. >.> silly drama logics idd.

on the other hand…would we be setting our heads on fire thinking about an ending if it was that easy?

I think Eun-soo’s fear lies in the fact that she doesn’t really know for sure how long the portal will be open. Really, she has no idea how it works except its appearance can be times by solar flares but what does she know about how long they last.

      October 27, 2012
      • pam lee #

Oh, Joonni, this just goes to show how fearful ES is, she is not even willing to risk getting near the portal in the case that Young will force her to go back, i. e. my worst case scenario where he throws her into the solar flare. 😦

My research for feeding my Faith’s addiction, continue.. even it’s already past midnight here, sigh..

And I found history about Gogoryeo, mention by SY in Ep 22. In the past, Korea diviced into three big dynasti, Silla (where Queen Of Soen Doek lives), Goryeo, and Joseon.

In the Silla era, there are 3 strong kingdoms, Shilla, Baekje, and Gogoryeo itself. Silla getting stronger and conquer the other kingdoms. After Silla getting weak, a huge rebellion occur, and Goryeo replace Silla.

So, Gogoryeo, mentioned by SY, was in the dynasti before Goryeo. Why SY really knows about Gogoryeo , even it’s a far era from this curent Goryeo ? Is he really a timetraveller ?

FAITH make me more crazy. Oke, i’ll continue my research. Will be back after i’find another fact about this.

Choi Young called Eun Soo ‘imja’ beginning in episode 2 when he was lying on the make shift stretcher answering her saying how could he lose consciousness when she is touching his body all over like that (trying to check him and save him). Later, he continued to call her ‘imja’ more frequently until now, that the only way he referred to her by. And I read in the TV interviews that king called the queen ‘wife’ while CY called ES ‘imja’, then they laughed about it. So does ‘imja’ mean ‘honey’? If, so, when he said that on the stretcher, he was mocking her? Later, he meant something more? The subtitles showed only ‘you’ for ‘imja’. Did the meaning of ‘imja’ change over time? I don’t understand Korean, but it seems this is a lot of fun to find out.

    October 28, 2012
    • joonni #

Simply put, “imja” means “you” in Korean and it is usually used between people who have reached a certain level of familiarity with each other. In the past, people used to say it regardless of whether you were married but nowadays, it is usually only used between a older married couple so that is why the translation of “honey” (as a term of affection) has been floating around.

I totally enjoy the Faith drama. My wild guess of how it ends :

Eun Soo would die in her lover’s arms as she wishes, that’ll end her journey to come back from the future to save her lover, Choi Young, and helps him understand how to live a meaningful life. Choi Young finally gets this life lesson and continues to live fully and continues to be a great General for Korea…

Both will get what they search for : a great love and a great way of living…

    • faither #

OMO… what kind of ending is that… and nobody can live happily if their soul mate and most beloved love of their live’s end in dead state. Song Ji Na promised us a Legendary ending and what you assumed is way too simple.
      Let’s wait and see…
Happy Faith day Faithlings pledged sisterhood!

Wew… “Choi Young (played by Lee Min Ho) and Eun Soo (played by Kim Hee Sun) try to make good memories together before they die.”

Why both of them should die? It doesn’t make any sense at all, CY is in good health, unless he’s only shaking hand.

try to be optimisticc and focus on the bit where they say ‘all the good memories they can make together!!!! ‘

Would you guys be ok with the thinking or do you need some help from me…although am pretty sure you know what kind of good memories i can think off.. *wink wink*

btw what does HEA stand for???

I hoped before, that one of the relics(the last one since they mentioned that there were three) that future ES left for present ES was an antidote.
