The Heirs Making Film: Blood Types of the Young Cast
I won’t translate the video word for word because there is not much in content and we can’t really here what they are saying for the most part. The main point of the video is to show the happy cast behind the cold atmosphere of the actual scenes they filmed in California, and at the pancake house, Park Shin Hye, Lee Minho, Kang Min Hyuk, and Kim Ji Won start to talk about their blood types. Everyone at the table, except Kim Ji Won, is blood type A. Kim Ji Won is B. Lee Minho guesses that Choi Jin Hyuk is either B or O; turns out he is O. Lee Minho also knows Kang Ha Neul is blood type A. Park Shin Hye looks up Krystal’s, and she is A too. The director pipes in that he is also blood type A .
I’ve looked up the rest of the blood types for the young cast of The Heirs, and listed them below by blood type. There are a lot that have the blood type A. This isn’t that strange considering that there is a higher percentage of people with blood type A in Korea than all the other types.
Many Koreans “believe” that personality traits, temperament, and compatibility with others are determined by their blood type, so it is not unusual for people to talk about this topic. It’s common for Americans to not know their blood type, but it is rare for Koreans to not know. I’m guessing it has something to do with the Korean national healthcare system which makes it easier for people to regularly get a thorough check up. Growing up in America, I only learned my blood type when I donated blood. Most of my friends don’t know their blood type. Everyone I’ve talked to in Korea does. I can’t say that everyone in Korea believes that blood type determines personality; it’s more a fun and easy way to understand someone. They realize there is no hard scientific proof that blood type determines personality; it works similarly to zodiac signs and astrology signs.
There is a lot of information out there in English about blood type personalities, so I won’t go into much detail. The descriptions I included below are from Huffington Post. It has similar descriptions about each blood type to other sites I’ve read in Korean and English. There are always a few variations in minor details among different sources, but you’ll get the gist of it below.
Blood Type A
Park Shin Hye
Kang Min Hyuk
Kang Ha Neul
Jeon Soo Jin
Personality traits: Conservative, introverted, reserved, patient, a perfectionist.
Worst traits: Obsessive, self-conscious, sometimes uptight and stubborn
People with blood type A are to referred to as ‘farmers’ and are considerate to others and extremely loyal. They can be quite secretive and reluctant to share their feelings.
Blood Type B
Kim Woo Bin
Kim Ji Won
Personality traits: Creative, flexible, individualistic, optimistic, passionate.Worst traits: Forgetful and sometimes, irresponsible
Type B personalities are empathetic, easily understanding others’ points of view, yet often hesitating to challenge or confront. Chameleon-like and flexible, they make good friends.
However, type B men have a different reputation and aren’t considered as ‘marriage material’ in Korea, where they are perceived as ‘players’ and are often selfish and mercurial.People who are B blood type have a different set of characteristics than people who are Type O or Type A – they are susceptible to different diseases, they should eat different foods and exercise in a completely different manner.
Blood Type AB
Im Joo Eun
Park Hyung Sik
Personality traits: Cool, controlled, introverted, rationalWorst traits: Critical, indecisive, unforgiving and aloof
Type AB personalities tend to be very charming and popular. They don’t sweat the small stuff and can be seen as spiritual and even at times, a bit “flaky”.
They are believed to be controlled by their heads rather than their hearts. Sometimes it is difficult to be an AB. AB’s don’t like to fit in anyone else’s “boxes”. If they feel too confined, they’ll break out of that box and do things their own way.
Blood Type O
Choi Jin Hyuk
Personality traits: Ambitious, self-confident, robust
Worst traits: Arrogant, insensitive, vain
People with blood type O are viewed as natural leaders and are often keen athletes. They are outgoing, expressive and passionate. They have an insatiable appetite for success and aren’t afraid to take risks or a gamble.
